UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Monday to the global revolution in the field of clean energy, while stressing the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan the need to unify international efforts to address the challenges facing the world in terms of energy, water and climate change.
Ban said at the opening of the fourth session of the World Summit on Future Energy in Abu Dhabi 'We need a revolution in global clean energy revolution to make energy available and affordable for all'.
He stressed that 'the shift in energy and other ideas and technologies is very important here to reduce the risks of climate and achieving the Millennium Development Goals, and to achieve economic growth and ensure the health of people and the planet too.'
He said that in the next two decades will increase global energy demand by 40 ', especially in developing countries where it is still three billion people rely on firewood and other sources of energy is not effective for cooking and heating.
He stressed that the provision of effective energy of these people will help the world avoid dangerous climate changes that scientists expect will come out as people out of poverty through job creation.
He explained that the achievement of these objectives needs to be $ 35 billion annually in the next twenty years, pointing out that this amount seems large, but in fact is no more than 3 'of the global investment expected in power in the same period.
He added 'We should set our priorities correctly. And thus to be an interesting future where clean energy is available for all ', calling for concerted efforts by everyone to achieve this goal.
He commended the initiative of the city of 'source' for clean energy in Abu Dhabi said that the fact that the source of a child is one of the major oil-producing countries in the world 'really inspiring', adding that 'Abu Dhabi has become a justification for the seat of the progress' in this area.
Summit will be held at the Abu Dhabi International Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) in the city 'source'.
For his part, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE attaches great importance to sustainable development issues because of their direct impact on the lives of future generations, pointing out that the Summit is' an ideal platform to support researchers and to encourage innovation and creativity in the renewable energy solutions which contribute to accelerating technological advances in this area'.
The Al Nahyan, that 'the world is facing great challenges in terms of energy, water and climate change and many other issues that affect their implications for humanity in all parts of the earth and given the magnitude of these challenges must be concerted international efforts and standardization in order to reach solutions for the desired'.
Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, chief executive of the source of the 'World Summit on the Future Energy' encourages dialogue and exchange views and stimulate new ideas and innovations and promote investment in renewable energy and clean technology.
He added that Abu Dhabi and through the 'Masdar' strategy and comprehensiveness of future energy - provide a global platform is open for cooperation and partnerships for this initiative, which embodies the vision and aimed at promoting the development of renewable energy technologies and reduce the impact of climate change and economic diversification and preparing for the transition to the adoption of clean energy.
Al Jaber confirmed that hosting this summit reflects the UAE's commitment to international cooperation hard to achieve these goals, saying that 'success in reaching these solutions require a joint international efforts and promote cooperation between the public and private sectors.
Al Jaber confirmed that 'we must also recognize that renewable energy technologies currently available will face difficulty in addressing their own challenges of climate change and achieve the desired goal that does not increase by more than two degrees warming by 2050'.
He called for a focus on diversification of sources of clean energy with high efficiency, economically viable, which should include traditional fuel clean and peaceful nuclear energy, and certainly of renewable energy.
He explained that ensure a technical optimum, which has the advantages of economic feasibility and the possibility of development and high efficiency, require the strengthening of competitiveness - not only between the sources of energy varied - but within the different technologies relevant to each, so that competing these techniques on incentives and funding for research and development.
He added that this competition will stimulate technical innovations in the field of low carbon energy sources lead to the development of feasible and economic future of clean energy, pointing to the importance of addressing the problem at its roots and that by focusing on energy efficiency and water conservation.
Are expected to attend more than 25 thousand participants and visitors at the summit dealing with a number of vital topics, including energy policy, investment and finance, and buildings 'green', and means of transport, clean technologies to generate energy from the sun, wind and biofuels, and many others.
